![]() ![]() I only ever found the solution to this problem in the first place because I found it posted as a YouTube comment somewhere. We’ve all seen it – the fiery, flashy Planeswalker symbol of Magic: the Gathering. It would be helpful in the future if MTGA checked to make sure the system was running the correct, up to date version of C++ as part of the update process, and either installed it for the user or prompted us to go do it before continuing. All I did was make sure that C++ was up to date, I think I restarted once, and opened Arena like normal after an update, didn't even get a black screen. Later in the day I decided to update it on my laptop (which has far worse specs than the desktop). I played a lot of Brawl today and didn't see any issues (except that ] sucked as Brawl commanders). There was a brief pause on the Black Screen, but I left it for about two minutes, came back and it was ready to go. So I decided to start fresh, Uninstalled MTGA, Restart, did install or repair of C++ for both 圆4 AND x86 (for good measure), Restart, then re-download and reinstalled MTGA. I checked and read that part of the update would migrate MTGA to 圆4 if available on the system. I remembered that updating C++ was how I fixed my Black Screen problems with IKO and THB, so I updated the C++ for x86. Upon running the installation I got the Black Screen. On my Gaming Desktop I tried to run MTGA today and got a warning that some file was missing (I forget which), so I re-downloaded and attempted to reinstall. Both are running Windows 10 with Intel chips. ![]() I found that the solution is to make sure Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is up-to-date BEFORE running MTGA with the new set update. For the benefit of the Subreddit I am going to post what I did. I've had this problem for each of the last three sets, my solution was more or less the same as yours. Release software should "just work", with reasonable updates as necessary (which should be virtually transparent to the user). I hope that if I do try again, WoTC has learned some lessons and resolved these technical issues. The latter would probably also be my signal to dump my Hasbro stock. I may try again in the future, or I may just choose to move on. Looking at a cursor on a black screen, even after jumping through all the usual hoops, is not how I choose to spend my limited gaming time, and certainly not any of my gaming money. I prefer Linux, but don't want the additional layer of issues involved in getting Arena running there. I've been willing to put up with that to log in every three days, run my daily quests, and draft if I've got the gold/gems (usually every second time).Īrena is the only reason I ever even boot a PC into Windows these days. I'm used to all that bad programming, and I've been tolerating it because at its core Magic is a great game. I'm used to having to manually replace a DLL file because the installer doesn't recognize that I'm running Windows 7 and install the correct version of that file. I'm used to having to uninstall Arena using Add/remove Programs every few days because of the updater saying "Whoops, an error occurred!" I'm used to having to re-download the installer, which then retrieves hundreds of MB of updates (why? it's the current version of the installer!), and then wait while over 4GB of "assets" are downloaded. Posting this because I know WoTC reps read Reddit forums. ![]() Until now everything worked perfectly, update after update.Īs soon as the Mac version is fixed (it has some issues) I will do that, but until then I would like to run it on Windows.ĭoes anybody have the same problems or any ideas? Could it be a. (It was the only Win version I had lying around) It installs fine, download needed assets etc.īut the map size is now only 2,5 GB or something.Īnd it still has the black screen with the cursor. Then I deleted everything and re-downloaded it. All is well.īut when I start the game, it only shows a black screen withe the mtgarena cursor. It updates well, no issues there, deletes the old files, moves it to the 圆4 environment. I just updated the game, after it having 16 gigs in the folder, so it had preloaded the file earlier this week. IN YOUR PROGRAMFILES/WIZARDSOFTHECOAST/ARENA FOLDER THERE ARE TWO. AFTER DOWNLOADING THE NEWEST VERSION THE PROBLEMS SEEM TO BE GONE! SEEMS FIXED FOR THE BLACK STARTUP SCREEN, BUT NOT ALWAYS FOR THE BLACK SCREENS AFTER MATCHES: FOR ME IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VISUAL C++ UPDATER. ![]()
